How do you clean your computer?

To clean your computer, take it outside, wipe it with a rag, open the case, wipe down the underside, dust the interior components, remove grime with alcohol, and close the case. This one-hour project requires rags, rubbing alcohol, cotton swabs, compressed air, a pen and a screwdriver.

1. Take the computer outside

   Unplug the computer, and disconnect all peripheral devices. Carry the computer outside.

2. Wipe the case

   Wipe the case with a dry rag. If your computer has exterior dust filters, slide them out of the retaining clips, and dust them. Squirt the filters with compressed air, and set them aside.

3. Wipe the interior

   Lay the computer on its side, and open the case. Dust the inside of the case with a clean, dry rag.

4. Clean the interior components

   Locate all of the fans. Place the tip of a pen between the blades of each one, and squirt the fans with compressed air. Use the compressed air to dust the other interior components and the interior corners of the case.

5. Apply rubbing alcohol

   Remove dust clumps, dirt, dead insects and other debris with a cotton swab moistened with rubbing alcohol.

6. Close the case

   Close the case, bring the computer inside, and reconnect the peripherals.
