How do you clean ink out of clothing?

The best method for removing ink from clothing depends on the type of ink. Permanent marker is almost impossible to remove, while washable ink is simpler. The method below is suitable for most ink stains. Always spot test the fabric before applying chemicals.
Blot the stain
Use a dry paper towel to blot any excess ink from the area, especially if the stain is due to a malfunctioning pen.
Apply a dry-cleaning solvent
Using a clean sponge, apply dry-cleaning solvent to the area. Let stand for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly until all traces of the chemical are gone.
Apply rubbing alcohol
Sponge rubbing alcohol onto the stain. Allow the alcohol to air dry.
Use liquid laundry detergent
If the rubbing alcohol doesn't fade the ink stain completely, apply liquid laundry detergent to the area. Allow it to set overnight, then rinse.
Pre-treat with stain remover
Apply either a stick or spray stain remover to the affected area of fabric. Launder normally, but do not dry until you've ensured the stain is gone.
Spray with hairspray
For a persistent ink stain, spray the affected area with hairspray and launder again.
Soak the clothing
If traces of the ink stain remain, soak the clothing in a solution. The first option is a solution of 1 quart of warm water, 1/2 teaspoon dishwashing liquid and 1 tablespoon white vinegar. The other option is replacing the vinegar with ammonia. Either way, allow the garment to soak for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly, and let the garment air dry.
