To clean black mold off a roof, put on safety gear, prepare a pressure washer, spray the mold, and scrub the eaves with diluted bleach. The supplies you need are a pressure washer, a ladder, bleach, water, a bucket, a brush, tarps, goggles, a mask, a long-sleeved shirt and gloves.
- Put on safety gear
Put on goggles, long gloves, a mask and a long-sleeved shirt.
- Prepare a pressure washer
Attach a pressure washer to an exterior faucet. Make sure that the "jet" setting is not selected, as excessive water pressure damages paint and siding.
- Spray the mold
Stand at least 2 feet away from the building, and spray the mold with the pressure washer. Walk slowly around the building, moving the water stream back and forth until the mold disappears.
- Scrub the eaves with bleach
Drape vinyl tarps over the vegetation growing near the building. Pour 1/4 gallon of water and 3/4 gallon chlorine bleach into a bucket. Climb a ladder, and apply the diluted bleach to the roof with a scrub brush. Work around the entire building, even if mold was not visible on all of the eaves. Use one batch of cleaning solution for every 50 feet of eave space.
