Clean soap scum by applying a solution of dishwasher detergent and water to the shower walls and then scrubbing the walls with a nylon brush. Heavy buildups require a second application. The process takes about an hour.
- Take a shower
Soap scum is easiest to remove when the shower walls are wet. Begin the job right after using the shower.
- Apply the solution
Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from the dishwasher detergent. Add dishwasher detergent to hot water, and then mix the solution thoroughly. Using a sponge, apply the solution liberally to the shower walls. Cover all of the surfaces with the detergent, and allow it to soak for five minutes.
- Scrub the shower
Use a stiff, nylon-bristle brush to scrub the scum from the shower walls and floor. Use caution if standing in the shower, as the floor may be lick. If the buildup is severe, repeat the soaking and scrubbing process to remove it.
- Rinse away the soap
Use large amounts of hot water to rinse off the detergent from the shower. To prevent accidents, be especially thorough when removing the solution from the floor. To avoid buildup in the future, use a squeegee or towel to dry the shower after each use.
