To clean a stainless steel tea kettle, hand wash only with a homemade natural cleaner of undiluted white vinegar, olive oil or baking soda. Do not place the tea kettle in the dishwasher.
To clean a stainless steel tea kettle:
- Make a paste
- Use vinegar or olive oil
- Use a commercial cleaner
Create a paste from 1/2 cup of baking soda and a green liquid soap or detergent. Add just enough of the soap to the baking soda that it creates a thick paste, similar to frosting. Then, use a sponge to apply the paste and scrub the stainless steel teakettle until the stains are removed. Rinse well under running water and dry with a non-abrasive clean cloth.
Another method to clean stainless steel is with undiluted white vinegar or olive oil. Dampen a cloth with either the vinegar or olive oil and rub the tea kettle until the stains are removed. Applying vinegar after cleaning with the baking soda paste leaves the stainless steel with a high-polished look.
If the tea kettle is heavily tarnished, a commercial cleaner may be necessary to clean the surface. Use only a cleaner that is made for use on tea kettles, and clean a small section and rinse under running water before cleaning the rest of the kettle. Do not let the cleaner dry on the kettle. Dry with a clean non-abrasive cloth.
