What cleaning products are safe to use on a vintage cast iron stove?

A vintage cast-iron stove that shows significant rust should be cleaned with a rotary wire brush that's attached to a drill. Trim that is made of copper or brass can be cleaned with Brasso metal polish and zero-gauge steel wool, while porcelain trim can be cleaned with a tub-and-tile cleaner.
Once rust is removed from cast-iron stoves, they can be polished with William's Stove Polish, which is applied with an old toothbrush. Stoves usually require two coats of polish applied 24 hours apart, and the stove can be buffed with a fine brush once it's fully dry. The polish is for the cast-iron areas only, and it must not be applied to the stove's trim.
