Clear cell ovarian cancer is a rare form of ovarian cancer where the tumor is made of flat, hobnailed or cube-shaped shells made of clear cytoplasm, according to PubMed Central. It is easier to detect and treat in its early stage.
Early-stage clear cell ovarian cancer generally presents as a large mass in the pelvic area, claims PubMed Central. However, the advanced stage of the disease is hard to treat and is resistant to conventional chemotherapy. Patients who are less than 60 years old and whose cancer has metastasized to their vascular systems have an especially poor prognosis. Clear cell ovarian cancer accounts for less than 5 percent of all ovarian cancers.
