According to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, climatology refers to the study of the climate of a region over a given period of time. Climatology also includes all aspects of oceanography and biogeochemistry.
The study of the climate in a location helps engineers plan how to design buildings and the infrastructure of a city to meet the challenges of daily weather. It is often defined as what citizens of an area expect as the normal weather conditions for any given time of the year. Climate and weather are two separate entities, but they are both defined by the same terms including temperature, wind, radiation and precipitation.
