What is a Clumber spaniel breed?

The Clumber spaniel, developed in England, is the largest of the spaniel breeds. People developed the breed to assist with gun hunting in heavy cover.
The American Kennel Club first recognized the Clumber spaniel in 1884. The breed has a long, low body and a substantial white coat that makes it easy for hunters to spot. It often has freckles on the muzzle and front legs as well as lemon, orange or brown spots around the ears and tail base. It stands 17 to 20 inches in height but can weigh between 55 and 85 pounds. These dogs are gentle, loyal and affectionate, though they can be aloof with strangers. Hunters most often use them to hunt pheasants and partridge.
