Coca-Cola was first produced on May 8th, 1886. It was invented by Dr. John Stith Pemberton, a pharmacist in Atlanta, Georgia who sold it through a local pharmacy for five cents a glass.
Pemberton sold parts of the company to many local businessmen, with a larger stake sold to Asa G. Candler just before Pemberton died in 1888. Candler decided to buy up the remaining stakes in the company and expanded the sale of Coca-Cola outside of Atlanta. Bottling of the soda first started in 1894 by Joseph Biedenharn by using a bottling mechanism and his soda fountain equipment. It was not until 1899 that the drink was bottled in large quantities.
