Is coconut crab edible?
By Forinfos - 21/05/2025 - 0 comments
The coconut crab, also known as the robber crab, is edible although it's not a true crab due to its soft, unsegmented abdomen. To many Pacific Islanders, this creature is considered a delicacy.
Coconut crabs are rare around human population; they are hunted for the quality of their meat. Coconut crabs are cousins to hermit crabs and are known to wander around Christmas Island. They can grow to be over 3 feet in length and weigh over 9 pounds. These crabs mainly consume coconut; however they have been known to feast on other coconut crabs, animal carcasses and even household pets.
