What are colloidal silver products?

According to WebMD, colloidal silver products are drugs or dietary supplements containing a liquid suspension of very small particles of silver. In 1999, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency banned all over-the-counter medicines containing colloidal silver due to its negative side effects and harmful interaction with other drugs.

WebMD further mentions that colloidal silver is a common ingredient in dietary supplements that are sold over the Internet. These are likely to have the same negative side effects as the medicines that have been previously banned. Such supplements are usually advertised as having many health benefits; however, these claims have not been medically confirmed.
