The next-brightest star, Canopus, is 74 light-years from Earth and shares the same classification and color as Sirius. The third-brightest star is called Rigil Kentaurus, also known as Alpha Centauri. With a G classification, Rigil Kentaurus appears as yellowish-white to the human eye.
