By Forinfos - 18/05/2026 - 0 comments
The most common color of an amaryllis plant is white with red veins, though cultivars exist that are pink to deep scarlet or purple. Other types are striped. Amaryllis plants grow from bulbs, with the plants of genus Hippeastrum often forced to bloom for the Christmas holidays.
Amaryllis flowers resemble lilies and are native to South Africa, while the Hippeastrum genus is native to South America. Carpenter bees and moths pollinate the plants of the Amaryllis genus.
Hippeastrum genus amaryllis plants are tender to cold weather and do best in indirect but bright light. Gardeners plant the bulbs between October and January for best results.
