Brown is the most common eye color in the world. Having brown eyes is a dominant genetic trait, which is why over 55 percent of the world's population possesses them. This includes the vast majority of people in Africa and Asia.
Hazel and blue are the next most frequently seen eye colors in the world. Blue eyes are a recessive genetic trait, making them less common. Roughly 8 percent of the world's population has blue eyes, predominantly in Northern Europe and areas around the Baltic Sea. Hazel eyes are similar to brown eyes, but lighter in appearance. Five to 8 percent of the world's population has hazel eyes.
