Eye colors are highly individualized, but the most common general hues are brown, blue and hazel. Green, silver and amber hues are also possible, but are more rare.
An estimated 55 percent of the world's population has brown eyes, making them by far the most common. Blue and hazel eyes each account for up to about 8 percent. Green eyes are found in about 2 percent of the world's population, and silver and amber are even more rare. Eye color is mostly determined by the concentration of melanin in the iris and a phenomenon called Rayleigh scattering. It is also possible, though rare, to have eyes of differing colors.
