Some common Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes include 99205 (new patient), 99215 (established patient), 99201-05 (new patient E/M), 99211-15 (established patient E/M), 99241-45 (patient consult), 99251-55 (psychiatric outpatient counseling) and 99211-15 (maintenance visits). Other common codes denote additional time such as 99354 (30-60 minutes) and 99355 (60+ minutes).
A CPT code is a code that is used for insurance purposes and billing purposes. The coding choice for each patient and patient's treatment is based on the patient's history, the patient's service and the amount of time that the patient was with the doctor. Each CPT is decided upon by the American Medical Association.
