What are some common entrance door sizes?

Some common entrance door sizes are 28, 30 and 32 inches in width and 7 or 8 feet in height. Many building districts follow the International Residential Code's requirement that entrance doors be at least 36 inches wide and 80 inches high, or 3 feet by 6 feet 8 inches.

Doors measuring 32 inches in width and 78 inches in height are common in buildings that are not in IRC controlled districts and for exterior doors other than the main entrance. Smaller or larger entrance doors are made by special order and are typically measured in width by 2-inch increments. While entrance doors are rarely shorter than 6 feet 8 inches, some common custom-made doors are 7 or 8 feet in height.
