What are some common issues with submersible well pumps?

The most common problems with submersible well pumps include the pump not running, water not moving or the pump shutting off too soon; all have to do with the level of voltage going into the motor. The voltage going into the pump must match the rated amount of the motor.
If the voltage is too low (often a result of wiring that is too light in gauge or loose or disconnected wires), the pump does not have enough power to pump water or, in come cases, start. If the voltage is too high, it is likely to trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. Blockages or leaks in the drop pipe are also common problems that cause the pump to move water but at a lower capacity.
