Some common poverty problems in the Philippines include high unemployment, low wages and inadequate economic growth. The parts of the economy that experience growth do not benefit the poor, rural population.

Poverty in the Philippines has many causes, including weak employment generation, an underdeveloped agricultural sector and a high level of inflation. The country experiences a high level of regional conflicts and natural disasters, which also contribute to the volatile economy.

As of 2015, the poverty rate in the Philippines is higher than the neighboring countries of Thailand, Indonesia and China. The Philippines has roughly the same rate of Poverty as Haiti.
