Is it common practice to tip tattoo artists?

It is common practice to tip tattoo artists, although it is not required. Tips are usually monetary, but some regular clients give artists other gifts that they know the artist enjoys.
Tattoo artists do not rely on tips to make up their wage. However, showing appreciation for their time and skill is a good gesture. Although a tip of 15 to 20 percent of the total price is appreciated, most artists understand that it may be too much money. Some customers bring personal gifts such as homemade foods or artwork. However, it is best to do this only after getting to know the artist.
