A common problem with the Chevy Volt is that the engine is very quiet and vehicle owners forget to turn it off. If the car is parked in the garage, this could lead to carbon monoxide build-up. As a result, over 64,000 Chevy Volts were recalled between 2011 and 2013.

Another common problem with the Chevy Volt is that it takes up to 16 hours to charge the battery. Older homes may have difficulty with overloaded circuits, preventing other appliances from being used while the car is being charged. Additionally, the interior of the Chevy Volt is cramped, because the T-shaped battery takes up a lot of space.
