What are some common problems with V-6 engines?

Engines using a V-6 design tend to be heavier and more complex than inline-four or straight-six designs, and therefore may be less reliable than simpler engines. In addition, V-6 engines usually have a higher center of gravity than other engine designs, potentially impacting the handling of vehicles with V-6 engines.

Unlike straight-six engines, V-6 engines have an inherent imbalance in their design that requires a heavier and more complex crankshaft design to counter-balance the motion of the engine's cylinders. This additional complexity may make the V-6 less reliable than a straight-six. A V-6 also has more moving parts than a four-cylinder engine and therefore has more parts than can experience mechanical failure.
