Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in the United States, according to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. It effects one in seven men, and one new case occurs every 2.4 minutes.
A man is 35 percent more likely to develop prostate cancer than a woman is to develop breast cancer, reports the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Risk factors for prostate cancer include old age, being of the African-American race and having a family history of the disease. However, because doctors diagnose 90 percent of prostate cancers while they are still in the local and regional stages, they have a high cure rate.
