As of 2015, the most common car repair is the replacement of the car’s oxygen sensor. While this is usually a very simple repair that can be carried out by most car owners, manufacturers have increasingly started to equip vehicles with oxygen sensor covers that require special tools to open.

The purpose of the oxygen sensor, also referred to as the lambda sensor, is to measure the proportion of oxygen in the vehicle’s fuel. The oxygen sensor works with the electronic fuel injection system to regulate the air-to-fuel mixture, in order to ensure proper combustion. A broken oxygen sensor can cause the vehicle to burn fuel excessively, thus reducing gas efficiency.
