Common side effects of the HPV vaccine include fever, nausea, and pain, swelling or redness at the site of injection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Other symptoms include tiredness, headache, and joint or muscle pain. The vaccine prevents infection from human papillomavirus, or HPV.
Health professionals recommend the vaccine for all children of ages 11 and 12 as well as young women under age 26 and men under 21 who did not previously receive it, notes the CDC. The CDC also recommends that gay or bisexual men or men under age 26 with compromised immune systems receive the vaccine.
