Ford Motor Company and Navistar are the companies that are the primary parties in the 6.0-liter Powerstroke diesel engine recall. The recall affected Ford Super Duty pickups and E-series vans that were equipped with the engine and sold between 2003 to 2007.
Ford Motor Company was subject to class action lawsuits by users claiming defects in the 6.0-liter Powerstroke engines that included a variety of problems with the turbochargers, the fuel system and other components. Ford responded by suing Navistar, the company that it had contracted to design and build the engine, for $493 million. Ford claimed that design flaws by Navistar in the 6.0-liter Powerstroke engine caused excessively high repair rates and warranty costs.
