The Russian Internet company Mail.Ru operates Odnoklassniki. Mail.Ru Group started as an email service in 1998 and is now a major corporate figure in the Russian-speaking part of the Internet. According to comScore, Mail.Ru Group is the largest Internet business worldwide based on minutes per visitor.

As of 2015, Mail.Ru Group owns Russia's leading email service and one of Russia's largest Internet portals, Mail.Ru. Besides Odnoklassniki, the company operates two other Russian social networking sites, VKontakte and Moi Mir. In addition to social networking sites, the company operates two instant messaging networks, Agent Mail.Ru and ICQ, and a number of Russian online games.
