How do you compress files?

To compress files in Windows, locate the files to be compressed in your computer, right-click on them, select Send To, and click Compressed (zipped) Folder. Although there are other ways to compress such files, the Windows File Compression technique is the easiest. The compression process takes less than one minute.
- Locate the files to be compressed
Browse the location of the files in your computer, and right-click on them to open a new menu. Move your mouse over the Send To option to open another menu.
- Instruct Windows to compress the selected files
Click Compressed (zipped) Folder on the new menu to compress the selected files after clicking the Send To option. To compress multiple files, hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard as you click on every file you want to compress, then right-click on them, click Send To, and select Compressed (zipped) Folder.
- Confirm the file compression process
To confirm whether the selected files have been compressed, look for the new folder with a zipper on it, next to the original files that you had compressed earlier. Windows does not make any changes to the original files, even when you edit the compressed folder. The operating system classifies them as two separate folders.
