What is computer-based handicapping?

Computer-based handicapping is a system used in horse racing that attempts to predict winners of horse races by using a computer program. Computer-based handicapping uses data from previous races to compare horses and rate them in different categories.
Computer-based handicapping allows users to compare horses against other horses in the same race without human bias. Computer handicapping is useful in seeing how a horse performed in similar circumstances. Computer handicapping cannot evaluate a horse riding for the first time and cannot evaluate pace. Computer handicapping typically assumes good track conditions and cannot predict the track conditions at the actual time of the race.
