A good thickness for concrete slabs used on residential property is a minimum of four inches. For concrete slabs meant for heavier loads, such as motorhome or RV storage, five to six inches is recommended.
After the appropriate thickness is determined, the ground needs to be cut to this thickness to prepare the base. Preparation includes removing dirt, weeds, grass, stones and tree roots.Gravel is a good option for building up the grade, if grading is necessary. Grade stakes are used to mark the area of the concrete slab prior to pouring the cement. After the cement has been poured, curing compound protects its integrity while it hardens.
