What are connector neurons?

Connector neurons, or interneurons, are neural cells that form connections between neurons. They cannot be classified as sensory or motor neurons and simply act as a liaison between two neurons.

Interneurons are multipolar and connect afferent neurons to efferent neurons throughout many neural pathways in the human body. They are located within the central nervous system and conduct communication signals between neurons. In doing so, they allow neurons to communicate with each other quickly and without pause. In turn, humans can talk, think, walk, move and function without any hesitation. Without these types of neurons, many communication signals would go unnoticed by the central nervous system.
