Pharmacy technicians should check with their state board of pharmacy, as some boards provide free continuing education courses. Pharmacy technicians may also be able to earn free continuing education credits at their workplace. However, the work done for this credit must be in addition to regular duties, and a licensed pharmacist must supervise these activities.

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board has requirements for continuing education units. As of 2015, pharmacy technicians must complete 20 hours in a two-year period.
