Copper oxide is a chemical compound made up of two elements, namely copper and oxygen. Copper combines with oxygen to form copper I oxide or copper II oxide. Copper I oxide is a black compound while copper II oxide is red.
Copper I oxide occurs naturally in some parts of the world as mineral cuprite. It melts at 1,232 degrees Celsius, and it is not soluble in water or any organic solvent. One of the best uses of this compound is in agriculture where it is used as an ingredient in many fungicides, which are used to control a variety of crop diseases.
