The cordon bleu finch is a small finch that is native to East Africa. The bird is also known as a blue-capped cordon bleu, blue-headed waxbill and blue-capped waxbill.
According to Beauty of Birds, the male's head, body and tail are a deep sky blue in color, and the wings, underbelly and back are fawn beige. Females lack the sky-blue coloring covering the whole head. Instead, the top of the female's head is the same color as the wings. The face, breast and tail of the female are sky blue like the male but appear much duller. Young males resemble the female in coloring.
