Cornelia Vanderbilt Cecil is buried in St Peter's Kirkyard in the Orkney Islands in Scotland. She was cremated, and her ashes are buried on top of her third husband's casket in this cemetery.
Vanderbilt's third and final marriage was in 1972 to William Goodsir, who was 26 years younger than she was. Prior to that, she was married to John Francis Amherst Cecil in 1924, and she had two sons with him. She divorced him in 1934, dyed her hair pink, moved to Europe and met and married Vivian Francis Bulkely-Johnson in about 1950.
The only child of George and Edith Dresser Vanderbilt, Cornelia inherited a substantial fortune when she was 25, following the deaths of her parents.
