Some or all of the costs associated with assisted living may be tax deductible depending on the individual's situation, explains Senior Living Residences. In order for a senior to take advantage of any available deductions, he must itemize his deductions on his tax return.
Long-term care services may be tax deductible as unreimbursed medical expenses. These long-term care services are defined as daily personal care services that are provided to assisted living residents, such as dressing, meal preparation and household cleaning. The personal care services must be provided based on a plan of care prescribed by a licensed health care provider, explains Senior Living Residences.
