Do the costs of progressive lenses vary?

There is a great variety in the cost of progressive eyeglass lenses, ranging from $150 to $800. The differences in price have to do with how the lenses are made, the size of the reading area of the lens, and the size and shape of the lens and frame.

Basic progressive frames with a fairly wide reading area usually run in the $175 to $200 range. However, smaller frames require "small corridor" lenses, and this brings the cost up to $250 to $350. Progressive lenses specifically created for computer and close-range work can cost from $150 to $250. At $400 to $800, premium progressive lenses are ground digitally and are customized for the prescription to better fit the frame.
