Peru is bordered by five countries: Ecuador and Colombia in the north, Brazil in the east, Bolivia in the southeast and Chile in the south. Peru is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean.
Peru is located on the Pacific coast of South America just to the south of the equator. The country features very diverse habitats. The mountainous Andes run from Peru's north to the southeast, and the arid Pacific Coastal region lies in the west. The tropical Amazon Basin rainforest is located in the east.
The capital of Peru is Lima. As of 2014, the population of the country was 27.9 million. The country's area is 496,223 square miles.
