Baghdad is located in Iraq, and it is the capital of the country. Baghdad is located approximately 300 miles from Iraq's northern, southern and western borders.

Baghdad's location is on both sides of the Tigris River and 40 miles from the Euphrates River. The city was founded in the eighth century, and the physical location was chosen due to it being right in the middle of Mesopotamia. Baghdad has a subtropical, arid climate, and its temperature can range from 20 degrees Fahrenheit to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The name of Baghdad dates back to pre-Islamic times and its origins are not well known.
