What is country code 86?

Country code 86 refers to the international telephone country code for calls being made to phone numbers within China. Telephone numbers within China are further divided at the city level, with each receiving a unique set of numbers ranging from two to four digits.

As of 2014, China holds the world record of just over 365 million telephones and nearly 550 million cell phones installed and used within its borders. These numbers, however, fall well short of China's population of over 1.3 billion people, meaning that less than half of its population has access to a cell phone. China's ISO three-digit country code is CHN.
