Nikola Tesla was born in 1856 in Smiljan, Lika, which was a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His birth town was a part of modern-day Croatia.
Nikola Tesla moved to both Austria and Italy in order to study physics and mathematics. During his career, he worked as an electrical engineer and a mechanical engineer. In 1884, Tesla emigrated to the United States where he worked for Thomas Edison in New York City. He is best known for designing an alternating current electricity supply system, which is still utilized in modern times. Tesla also studied high-voltage, high-frequency power and designed the induction motor, the rotating magnetic field and the Tesla coil.
