As of 2013, the largest dollar amount of diamonds are mined in the Congo. Russia produces the second largest amount, with Botswana coming in third. Canada started commercially mining diamonds in 1998 and now occupies the fourth position.
The largest diamond mine in the world is the Yubileyny mine in Sakha, Russia, with an estimated 153 million carats of diamonds still to be recovered. The United States may not have any commercial diamond mines, but one-third of all gem-quality diamonds are purchased by Americans. Although India and Belgium don't have diamond mines, they are the top two exporters of finished diamonds in the world.
