Iowa is the state that produces the most corn, and it has held that title for almost 20 years. Iowa out produces most countries in corn growth.
Iowa farmers grew almost 2.4 billion bushels of corn in 2014. This was mainly field corn. The biggest portion of the state's corn is processed into animal feed, although some also goes to making sweeteners, ethanol production, corn oil and corn-based starches. More than 13 million acres of land were used in Iowa in 2014 for growing corn, with only 3,393 of those acres devoted to sweet corn. Most of the Iowa sweet corn was sold locally, while the field corn has a wider distribution base.
