According to the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council, Michigan produces the most highbush blueberries of any U. S. state, followed in order by Oregon, Washington, Georgia and New Jersey. Highbush blueberries are supermarket-grade fruit. Lowbush blueberries, which are primarily used in food processing, are produced mostly in Maine and eastern Canada.

The remaining states in the North American blueberry production top 10, in order of volume, are California, North Carolina, Florida, Mississippi and Indiana. Although 38 U.S. states are commercial growers of blueberries, these 10 account for 98 percent of commercial blueberries grown in the United States. In Canada, highbush blueberry production is greatest in the province of British Columbia.
