As of 2012, Minnesota produces more turkeys than any other state. It is one of six states that produce two-thirds of the turkeys raised in the United States. North Carolina, Arkansas, Virginia, Missouri and Indiana follow Minnesota in turkey production.
In 2012, Minnesota produced 1.16 billion pounds of turkey out of 7.5 billion pounds of turkey produced that year. Minnesota is estimated to produce 49 million turkeys every year. Developments in production practices and better turkey feeds have contributed to the increase in turkey production. Although there is a growing demand for turkey in the United States, the country also exports the most turkey products in the world.
