Colorado Springs, Colo., is a city located in El Paso County. In 2013, the city's estimated population was 439,886. It is the second most populated city in Colorado, next to Denver.
The first people to populate the Colorado Springs area belonged to the Native American Ute, Arapahoe and Cheyenne tribes. The territory was included in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. Colorado Springs is classified as a high desert and sits between the Rocky Mountains to the west, high plains areas to the east, the Palmer Divide to the north, and high desert lands to the south. Because of where the city is situated, it has a semi-arid climate that can vary drastically from day to day.
