Will County is a county in the northernmost and easternmost part of Illinois, just south of Chicago. Its largest city is Joliet, which is the county seat.
Will County was founded in January of 1836 and covers 837 square miles of land. Its population of 677,000 makes it the fourth-most populous county in Illinois.
Will County is one of the five collar counties of the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metropolitan area, which covers areas in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. As a result of this, Will County is home to five different area codes that are spread across Joliet, northern Will County and eastern Will County.
