In what county is St. Augustine, Fla.?

The coastal town of Saint Augustine is the county seat of St. Johns county in northeastern Florida. The county occupies 600 land square miles to the south of Duval county and to the north of Flagler County.

Founded by the Spanish in 1565, Saint Augustine is the oldest permanent European settlement. The home of Flagler College, Saint Augustine has an estimated population of 13,679 and lies about 40 miles south of Lacksonville. Much of the economy is supported by year-round tourism and supplemented by shrimping and commercial fishing. Points of interest in the city include Fort Matanzas National Monument, Cathedral Basilica and the Old School House.
