To create a background gradient in GIMP, select the Blend Tool, and choose a gradient by clicking on the gradient preview in the Tool Options dialog. Click on a section of the canvas, and drag the tool to another section of the canvas to apply the gradient.
- Select the Blend Tool, and choose a gradient
Select the Blend Tool, and choose a gradient by clicking on the gradient preview from the Blend Tool's Tool Options dialog. Choose one from the list of options that appears.
- Choose additional options
Choose the desired foreground and background colors as the most widely used gradient options require them. Choose a shape, such as linear, radial and square, as well as an opacity level, if desired.
- Apply the Blend Tool to the canvas
To apply the Blend Tool, click on a section of the canvas, and hold before dragging the cursor to another section of the canvas. This can be applied in a variety of different ways and angles, such as by starting in the middle and dragging the cursor to a corner or by dragging cursor from one end of the canvas to another.
- Experiment
Press "Ctrl+Z" to automatically undo any action in GIMP and try again with another color, gradient or application angle until the desired background has been obtained.
